Zechariah 14 - EasyEnglish Bible 2024(EASY)

Chapter 14God will rule the whole earth

Listen! A day will soon come when the Lord will judge people. At that time, Jerusalem's enemies will take your valuable things. They will share your things among themselves as you watch.

I will bring all the other nations together to attack Jerusalem. They will take the city for themselves. They will rob the houses. They will take hold of the women to have sex with them. They will take half the people away to other countries as their prisoners. They will allow the other people to remain in Jerusalem.

Then the Lord will prepare for battle. He will fight against the people of those nations, as he has fought battles in past times.

On that day, the Lord's feet will stand on the Mount of Olives that is on the east side of Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives will break in two pieces. Half of the mountain will move north and half of the mountain will move south. There will be a great valley in the middle that goes from east to west.

The valley will reach as far as Azel. You will escape through the valley in the middle of the mountains. It will be like the time of the earthquake when your ancestors escaped. That happened when Uzziah was king of Judah.

Then the Lord my God will appear. He will bring his holy angels with him.

On that day, there will be no light, as the sun will not shine in the day.

It will happen in one special day, a day that only the Lord knows. There will not be a normal day and a night. Instead there will be light at evening time.

On that day, fresh water will pour out from Jerusalem. Half of this water will go towards the sea in the east. Half of it will go towards the sea in the west. This will happen during both summer and winter.

The Lord will then be king to rule over all the earth. On that day, there will be only one Lord. Everyone will know him by that one name.

All the land will change. From Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, the land will become flat. But Jerusalem itself will rise up high above the land around it. It will remain in its own place, from the Benjamin Gate to the First Gate and on to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel as far as the royal winepresses.

People will make their homes in the city. They will never be afraid of God's punishment again. Jerusalem will be a safe place to live.

But the Lord will punish the all nations that fought against Jerusalem. He will cause them to become very ill. Even as the people stand on their feet, their bodies will become weak and useless. Their eyes will become useless in their heads. Their tongues will become useless in their mouths.

On that day, the Lord will cause them to be afraid and confused. They will take hold of each other and fight against each other.

Judah's people will also go to Jerusalem to fight there. They will take for themselves the valuable things of all the nations around them. They will take gold and silver and lots of beautiful clothes.

The animals that belong to those other nations will also become ill, like their people. Their horses, their mules, their camels, their donkeys and all their other animals will be very ill in the places where they have their camps.

After that, the people who are still alive from the nations that attacked Jerusalem will return there. They will go to Jerusalem each year during the Festival of Huts. They will go to worship the King, the Lord Almighty.

If the people of any nation on the earth refuse to go to Jerusalem, their land will have no rain. They must go there to worship the King, the Lord Almighty.

If the Egyptian people refuse to go, their land will have no rain. Instead, the Lord will cause them to become very ill. That is how he will punish the people of any nation who refuse to go to Jerusalem for the Festival of Huts.

They must all go to worship the Lord during the Festival of Huts. The Egyptian people and the people of all the other nations will receive the same punishment if they do not do this.

On that day, the words, ‘Holy for the Lord’ will be written on the bells of the horses. All the pots in the Lord's temple will be as holy as the bowls in front of the altar.

All the pots in Jerusalem and in the whole of Judah will be holy things for the Lord Almighty. The people who come to offer sacrifices may use any of the pots to cook the meat for their sacrifices. On that day, there will no longer be any traders who buy and sell things in the temple of the Lord Almighty.
