IntroAbout the Book of LeviticusIn this book, Moses tells the Israelites the rules that God wants them to obey. God showed his people that he is holy, and they must worship him in the right way. In Chapters 1–7, God tells Moses the rules for sacrifices that the Israelites must offer. The Book of Hebrews tells us that these sacrifices pointed to Jesus. His death was a perfect sacrifice. It means that the Old Testament sacrifices are no longer necessary. In Chapters 8–10, God tells Moses the rules for priests. Aaron was Moses' brother. He was the first priest that God gave to the Israelites. The Book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus is the perfect priest.Chapters 11–27 tell us that the Israelites must live in the right way. They must do clean things. They must love their neighbours. If they obey God, they will be happy. If they do not, much trouble will happen to them.Chapter 16 tells us about a very special day called the Day of Atonement. On that day, the people used two goats. One of the goats was a sin offering. The priest sent the other goat into the desert. It was a sign to the people that their sin could go away like the goat.
