IntroAbout the Book of DeuteronomyGod chose Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses knew God and he loved God's Law. God talked to him like a friend.In this book, Moses explains to the Israelites what God has done to help them. God brought them out of Egypt. He was their guide through the desert for 40 years. God gave his Law to them at Mount Sinai.The Israelites have now arrived near the Jordan River. They will go across the river into Canaan, the land that God promised to give to them. But Moses will not go with them. God has told him that he will die before the Israelites go across the river. So Moses wants them to remember that they belong to God as his people, and that God loves them. He tells them again about all the commands and rules that God wants them to obey. If they obey him, they will be happy. But if they do not obey God, much trouble will happen to them.
