Chapter 13God makes his people clean from their sins

1‘On that day, water will start to pour from a fountain for King David's descendants and for Jerusalem's people. It will make them clean from their sins and the things that have made them unclean.’

2The Lord Almighty says, ‘On that day, I will remove the names of idols from the land. Nobody will remember them any more. I will also remove from the land the false prophets and the bad spirit that deceives them.

3Because of that, if anyone continues to prophesy, his own father and mother will say to him, “You must die. You say that you speak with the Lord's authority, but you tell lies.” Then his own parents will use a sword to kill him as he prophesies lies.

4On that day, every prophet will be ashamed of his visions. He will no longer wear a prophet's rough clothes to pretend that he is a prophet.

5Instead, he will say, “Do not think that I am a prophet. No, I am a farmer. From the time that I was a boy, I have always worked on the land.”

6People may ask him, “What caused those wounds on your body?” He will tell them, “I received those wounds when I was at the house of my friends.” ’ God's message about his shepherd and the sheep

7The Lord Almighty says,

‘Wake up, my sword!

Attack my shepherd, the man who is near to me.

Kill the shepherd and the sheep will run away.

I will attack the little sheep.’

8The Lord says,

‘In the whole land, only one third of the people will remain alive.

Two-thirds of the people will die.

9I will use fire to test those people who remain.

I will make them pure,

as men use fire to make gold and silver pure.

They will call to me for help

and I will answer them.

I will say, “These are my people.”

They will say, “The Lord is our God.” ’
