Chapter 1Adam's descendants

1Adam, Seth, Enosh,

2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared,

3Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, Noah.

4Noah's sons were Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Japheth's descendants

5Japheth's sons were: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras.

6Gomer's sons were: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.

7Javan's sons were: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim people and the Rodanim people.

Ham's descendants

8Ham's sons were: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan.

9Cush's sons were: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah and Sabteca.

Raamah's sons were: Sheba and Dedan.

10Cush was also the father of Nimrod. Nimrod became the first brave soldier in the world.

11Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,

12Pathrusites, Kasluhites and Caphtorites. The Philistines were descendants of the Kasluhites.

13Canaan's firstborn son was Sidon. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites,

14Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,

15Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,

16Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.

Shem's descendants

17Shem's sons were: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

Aram's sons were: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech.

18Arpachshad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.

19Eber had two sons. The name of one son was Peleg. When he was alive, people began to live in different places on the earth. That is why his name was Peleg. Peleg's brother's name was Joktan.

20Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

22Ebal, Abimael, Sheba,

23Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All those men were Joktan's sons.

24Shem's descendants included Arpachshad, Shelah,

25Eber, Peleg, Reu,

26Serug, Nahor, Terah

27and then Abram. Abram's name became Abraham. Abraham's sons and their descendants

28Abraham's sons were: Isaac and Ishmael.

29These were Ishmael's descendants:

Ishmael's firstborn son was Nebaioth.

His other sons were: Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,

31Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. Those men were Ishmael's sons.

32Abraham's slave wife Keturah gave birth to these sons: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.

Jokshan's sons were: Sheba and Dedan.

33Midian's sons were: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah.

All those men were descendants of Keturah.

34Abraham was the father of Isaac.

Isaac's sons were: Esau and Israel. Esau's sons and their descendants

35Esau's sons were: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam and Korah.

36Eliphaz's sons were: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz and Amalek who was born to Timna.

37Reuel's sons were: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah.

38Seir's sons were: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer and Dishan.

39Lotan's sons were: Hori and Homam. Lotan's sister was Timna.

40Shobal's sons were: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.

Zibeon's sons were: Aiah and Anah.

41Anah's son was Dishon.

Dishon's sons were: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.

42Ezer's sons were: Bilhan, Zaavan and Jaakan.

Dishan's sons were: Uz and Aran.

The kings and leaders of Edom

43These kings ruled in Edom before any kings ruled over Israel:

Bela son of Beor. The name of his city was Dinhabah.

44When Bela died, Zerah's son Jobab ruled in Edom. He was from Bozrah.

45When Jobab died, Husham then ruled. He was from the land of the Temanites.

46When Husham died, Bedad's son Hadad then ruled. Bedad had won the war against the Midianites in the region of Moab. The name of his city was Avith.

47When Hadad died, Samlah then ruled. He was from Masrekah.

48When Samlah died, Shaul then ruled. He was from Rehoboth on the river.

49When Shaul died, Akbor's son Baal-Hanan then ruled.

50When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad then ruled. The name of his city was Pau. Hadad's wife was Mehetabel. She was Matred's daughter. Matred was the daughter of Me-Zahab.

51King Hadad also died.

The leaders of the clans of Edom were: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

54Magdiel and Iram. Those men were the leaders of Edom.
