IntroAbout the Book of 1 Kings1 Kings is a book about the Israelites. The Books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings tell us what happened after King David ruled Israel. Solomon became king after David. He built the first temple in Jerusalem.After Solomon died, Israel became two kingdoms. The kingdom in the south was called Judah. Its capital city was Jerusalem. Rehoboam was the first king of Judah. The kingdom in the north was still called Israel. Its capital city was Samaria. Jeroboam became king of Israel. See 1 Kings 12. There were many other kings who ruled after these two kings.When the kings of Judah and Israel obeyed God, the people had peace. But sometimes the kings and the people did not obey God. They worshipped other gods instead. Then bad things happened. God sent a prophet to warn the people. His name was Elijah. He did miracles that someone could only do with God's help. He told the people that they must worship God.
