Emmanuel
This is the Lord's message that he spoke about Israel. He is the Lord who made all the heavens and who created the whole earth. He is the one who gives life to men and women. He says:
‘Look! I will cause Jerusalem to become like a bowl that is full of wine! The nations that are near will drink from it and they will become drunk. They will attack Jerusalem and the other cities of Judah.
On that day, I will cause Jerusalem to be like a heavy rock. Any army that tries to move it will hurt themselves very much. But all the nations of the earth will come together to attack Jerusalem.’
The Lord says, ‘On that day, I will cause every horse to become confused. I will cause their riders to be crazy. I will take care of Judah's people. But I will make the horses of their enemies blind.
Then the leaders of Judah will say to themselves, “Jerusalem's people are strong because the Lord Almighty is their God.”
On that day, I will make Judah's leaders like a flame that starts a fire in a heap of wood. They will be like a fire in a field of dry grass. They will destroy all the nations that are everywhere around them. Then the people of Jerusalem will live safely in the city.
I, the Lord, will save the homes of Judah first, before I rescue Jerusalem's people. As a result, the descendants of King David and the people of Jerusalem will not receive greater honour than other places in Judah.
On that day, the Lord will save the people who live in Jerusalem. Even the people who are very weak will become strong again, like great King David. King David's descendants will rule the people, as if the angel of the Lord
himself is leading them.9On that day, I will begin to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.
God's people will weep for the one that they killed10I, the Lord, will pour a new spirit on David's descendants and on the people who live in Jerusalem. That spirit will cause them to be kind and to pray for help. So they will look towards me. They will see the one that they have pushed a spear into. They will be sad and weep, as parents weep after the death of their only son. They will weep loudly, as if their firstborn son has died.
On that day, the people in Jerusalem will weep very much. They will be as sad as the people were at Hadad-Rimmon, in the fields of Megiddo.
All the people in the land of Judah will weep in separate groups. One group will be the clan of David's descendants. Their wives will weep in another group. The clan of Nathan's descendants will weep together as a group. Their wives will weep in a separate group.
The clan of Levi's descendants will also weep as a group. And their wives will weep as a group. The clan of Shimei's descendants will weep as a group. And their wives will weep as a group.
All the other clans of Judah that still remain will also weep in groups, as well as their wives in separate groups.’
