1And these are the words of the book, which and prayed before the Lord;

6Cp. ver. 10.They made also a collection of money Cp. Deut. 16.17 & 2 Cor. 8.3.according to every man's power:

7And they sent it to Jerusalem unto Joakim the high priest, the son of Cp. 1 Chr. 6.13.Helkias, the son of Cp. 1 Chr. 6.13.Salom, and to the priests, and to all the people which were found with him at Jerusalem,

8At the same time when he took 2 Kin. 24.13. 2 Chr. 36.10.the vessels of the house of the Lord, that had been carried out of the temple, to return them into the land of Judah, the tenth day of the month Esth. 8.9.Sivan, namely, silver vessels, which Cp. 2 Kin. 24.17.Sedekias the son of Josias king of Judah had made,

9After that Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried away ver. 9. Jer. 24.1. Cp. 2 Kin. 24.6,15.Jechonias, and the princes, and the captives, and the mighty men, and the people of the land, from Jerusalem, and brought them unto Babylon.

10And they said, Cp. ver. 6.Behold, we have sent you money; buy you therefore with the money Cp. Jer. 17.26.burnt offerings, and sin offerings, and incense, and prepare Cp. Jer. 17.26 & 41.5.an oblation, and offer upon the altar of the Lord our God;

11And Cp. Ezra 6.10 & Jer. 29.7.pray for the life of Cp. 2 Kin. 24.1 & 25.1 & Ezra 1.7 & Jer. 28.14 & 49.28 & Dan. 2.1, alNabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and for the life of Cp. Dan. 5.1,2 & 7.1 & 8.1.Baltasar his son, that their days may be Deut. 11.21. Ps. 89.29. Cp. Ecclus. 45.15.as the days of heaven above the earth:

12And the Lord will give us strength, and Ezra 9.8. Ps. 13.3.lighten our eyes, and we shall live Cp. Ezek. 31.6 & Dan. 4.12.under the shadow of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and under the shadow of Cp. Dan. 5.1,2 & 7.1 & 8.1.Baltasar his son, and we shall serve them many days, and find favour in their sight.

13Pray for us also unto the Lord our God, for we have sinned against the Lord our God; and unto this day the wrath of the Lord and his indignation is not turned from us.

14And ye shall read Cp. ver. 1.3.this book which we have sent unto you, to make confession in the house of the Lord, upon Cp. Hos. 9.5.the day of the feast and on the days of the solemn assembly.

15And ye shall say, ch. 2.6. Dan. 9.7. See Neh. 9.32-34.To the Lord our God belongeth righteousness, but unto us ch. 2.6. Jer. 7.19. Cp. 2 Chr. 32.21 & Ps. 44.15.confusion of face, as at this day, unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

16And to our kings, and to our princes, and to our priests, and to our prophets, and to our fathers:

17Dan. 9.5.For that we have sinned before the Lord,

18And disobeyed him, and ch. 2.10. Dan. 9.6,10.have not hearkened unto the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the commandments of the Lord that he hath set before us:

19Cp. 2 Kin. 21.15 & Jer. 7.25.Since the day that the Lord brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt, unto this present day, we have been disobedient unto the Lord our God, and we have dealt unadvisedly in not hearkening unto his voice.

See Deut. 28.15-68.and the curse, which the Lord commanded Moses his servant to pronounce in the day that he brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt, to give us a land See Ex. 3.8.that floweth with milk and honey, as at this day.

21Nevertheless we hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord our God, according unto all the words of the prophets, See 2 Chr. 36.15.whom he sent unto us:

22But we walked every man in the imagination of his own wicked heart, to serve strange gods, and to do that which is evil in the sight of the Lord our God.
