2 Esdras 6 - Revised Version with Apocrypha 1885, 1895(RV1895)

1And he said unto me, was established,

5And ere the present years were sought out, and or ever the imaginations of them that now sin were estranged, before Abraham, inasmuch as Jacob and Esau were born of him, The beginning of a man is his hand, and the end of a man is his heel; between the heel and the hand seek thou nought else, Esdras.

11I answered then and said, rocked to and fro.

30And he said unto me, These things came I to shew thee this night.

31If therefore thou wilt pray yet again, tell thee greater things than these.

32For thy voice hath surely been heard before the Most High:

40this world.

56As for the other nations, which also come of Adam, thou hast said that Is. 40.17. Dan. 4.35.they are nothing, and are like unto spittle: and thou hast likened the abundance of them unto Is. 40.15.a drop that falleth from a vessel.

57And now, O Lord, behold, these nations, Is. 40.17. Dan. 4.35.which are reputed as nothing, Cp. ch. 4.23 & 5.28 & Rest of Esth. 14.11.be lords over us, and devour us.

58But we thy people, Ex. 4.22. Hos. 11.1. Ecclus. 36.12.whom thou hast called thy firstborn, thy only begotten, and thy fervent lover, are given into their hands.

59If the world now be made See ver. 55.for our sakes, why do we not possess for an inheritance our world? Cp. Ps. 74.10.how long shall this endure?
