1My son, when thou passest into humiliation.

5 See 2 Esd. 16.73. For gold is tried in the fire,

And ch. 3.17.acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation.

6 Ps. 37.3,5. Put thy trust in him, and he will help thee:

Order thy ways aright, and set thy hope on him.

7YE that fear the Lord, Cp. ch. 1.23., See Ps. 37.7-9.wait for his mercy;

And turn not aside, lest ye fall.

8Ye that fear the Lord, put your trust in him;

See ch. 51.30. And your reward shall not fail.

9Ye that fear the Lord, hope for good things,

And for eternal gladness and mercy.

10Look at the generations of old, and see:

Cp. Ps. 37.25 & 1 Mac. 2.61. Who did ever put his trust in the Lord, and was ashamed?

Or who did abide in his fear, and was forsaken?

Ps. 145.18. Cp. Ps. 30.2. Or who did call upon him, and he despised him?

11 See Ps. 85.15. For the Lord is full of compassion and mercy;

And he forgiveth sins, Cp. ch. 51.12.and saveth in time of affliction.

12Woe unto Cp. ch. 22.18.fearful hearts, and to faint hands,

And to the sinner that Prov. 28.6 (mg.), 18 (mg.).goeth two ways!

13Woe unto the faint heart! for it believeth not;

Therefore shall it not be defended.

14Woe unto you that have ch. 41.2. Cp. Heb. 10.36 & James 1.3,4.lost your patience!

And what will ye do when the Lord shall visit you?

15They that fear the Lord will not disobey his words;

And John 14.23. Cp. 1 John 2.5.they that love him will keep his ways.

16They that fear the Lord will seek his good pleasure;

And they that love him shall be Cp. Ps. 119.97,103.filled with the law.

17They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts,

And will humble their souls in his sight,

18 saying,

Cp. 2 Sam. 24.14 & 2 Mac. 10.4. We will fall into the hands of the Lord,

And not into the hands of men:

Cp. ch. 18.5. For as his majesty is,

So also is his mercy.
