Luke 2The Birth of Jesus

1In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

2This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.

3All went to their own towns to be registered.

4The Shepherds and the Angels

8Now in that same region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

10 the Lord.

12 praising God and saying,

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.”

16So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the child lying in the manger.

17When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child,

18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them,

19 and he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Jesus Is Presented in the Temple

27 came into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary under the law,

28Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying,

29 to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

The Return to Nazareth

39 saw him they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Child, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously looking for you.”

50 and in divine and human favor.
