1Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us,

2 to write a well-ordered account for you, most excellent Theophilus,

4so that you may have a firm grasp of the words in which you have been instructed.

The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold

29But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

30The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

31

35 will be holy; he will be called Son of God.

36And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren.

37 a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”

Mary’s Song of Praise

46 said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,

47 his people and redeemed them.

69 for us

in the house of his child David,

70 upon us,
