Keil and Delitzsch Biblical Commentary onthe Old Testament

From Reuben they received four: Gezer(Joshua 20:8 : see Deuteronomy 4:43), Jahza, Kedemoth, and Mephaath (Joshua13:18).

(Note: R. Jacob ben Chajim has omittedJoshua 21:36 and Joshua 21:37 from his Rabbinical Bible of the year 1525 asspurious, upon the authority of Kimchi and the larger Masora; but uponinsufficient grounds, as these verses are to be found in many good MSS and oldeditions of an earlier date than 1525, as well as in all the ancient versions, and could not possibly have been wanting from the very first, since theMerarites received twelve towns, which included the four that belonged toReuben. In those MSS in which they are wanting, the omission was, no doubt, acopyist's error, occasioned by the homoioteleuto'n (see de Rossi variae lectt.ad h. l., and J. H. Michaelis' Note to his Hebrew Bible).)

Sobre a omissão de Chayyim em Ne 7:68:
Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges

68. This verse does not appear in some ofthe oldest Hebrew MSS., and is not reckoned in the computation of 685 versesassigned to these books in the Massoretic note at its close. The omission, however, is not supported by the parallel passages in Ezra and 1 Esdr., nor bythe LXX. and Vulg. If therefore it be an interpolation from Ezra 2:66, it musthave been inserted at a very early date. The alternative is most probable thatthe omission is the result of an oversight on the part of a copyist, whose eyepassed from the ‘five’ at the end of Nehemiah 7:67 to that at the end ofNehemiah 7:68.
