Why do I have a learning disability? Why did God make me with a handicap/learning disability?
"But the Lord said...I do not look at the things people look at. Man looks at how someone appears on the outside. But I look at what is in the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).
"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him" (Romans 8:28).
"Turn all your worries over to [God]. He cares about you" (1 Peter 5:7).
No one is born “perfect” because there is sin in the world. Everyone probably has some sort of learning difference in at least one part of his or her brain that makes it work slower in some ways. We call these differences "learning disabilities." Some learning disabilities are big enough to make it hard for a student to do well at school, even though they look like every other kid on the outside. Other people have differences we call handicaps. These are usually easier to notice—they might be a missing a hand, arm, or leg; using a wheelchair; or blindness or deafness.
Some people have their disabilities and handicaps from the time they are born. Others may have them because they were hurt later on. No matter what disability or handicap someone has, God loves him or her just as much as he loves all other people! God doesn't care how unique our bodies look like on the outside or how perfectly they work on the inside—God only looks at our hearts. Some people tease kids and adults who have disabilities and handicaps. This makes God very sad.
God didn't create these things—they happened because the very first people brought sin into the world. We don't always understand why God allows disabilities and handicaps to happen to people, but God will still use these people to accomplish good things in this world and bring him glory! Nothing happens by chance, even things that seem bad.
