Our Time Together - Truth - Week 2

Purpose: Observing behavior and the consequences of good and bad choices
Objective: Talk about how God's ways and the world's ways affect each one of us

First Day
Pray:
Suggested model: Heavenly Father, we accept Your Word as our standard and judge for living righteously.  We confess our sins so that Your Holy Spirit will teach us Your love, forgiveness, power, and Word during this family time together.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Each one discuss some of the lies and untruthful things that happened recently.  (Do not include actions or statements from other family members.)

Consider these situations:

At school, at work, at play, at church, etc.
On TV, in movies, in the newspaper, etc.
On the Internet, etc.

Everyone share his or her observations.

Second Day:

Pray: Suggested model: Heavenly Father, we accept Your Word as our standard and judge for living righteously.  We confess our sins so that Your Holy Spirit will teach us Your love, forgiveness, power, and Word during this family time together.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Think about some of the untruthful things that you discussed during your last Our Time Together.

1. Were you personally affected by the lie?
2. How did you react to the lie?
3. Was it necessary for the person to lie?
4. Did the one being untruthful get away with the lie?
5. Did the person who lied feel any guilt or shame?

Each one describe one observation and answer the above questions

Read aloud Ephesians 4:31-32:
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  (NIV)

Do you know that you can gain your freedom by unconditionally forgiving a person who lied or was dishonest to you?  (Eph 4:31-32)

In the spaces below, write down several words that best describe how your family reacts to lies and untruthfulness.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Third Day

Pray: Suggested model: Heavenly Father, we accept Your Word as our standard and judge for living righteously.  We confess our sins so that Your Holy Spirit will teach us Your love, forgiveness, power, and Word during this family time together.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Discuss several truthful actions that you have observed recently.  (Do include actions or statements by other family members, when appropriate.)

Consider these situations:
At school, at work, at play, at church, etc.
On TV, in movies, in the newspaper, etc.
On the Internet, etc.

Everyone share their observations.

James 1:19-22 (NIV)
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.  Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.  Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says.

Read Romans 8:1 aloud:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

In the spaces below, write down several words that best describe your family's attitude about being truthful.

2. Did this action make you feel good?

1 Timothy 1:5  (NAS)
