How does prayer work?

"Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask, and you will receive what you ask for. Then your joy will be complete" (John 16:24).

"Jesus told his disciples a story. He wanted to show them that they should always pray and not give up" (Luke 18:1).

"We have a great high priest. He has gone up into heaven. He is Jesus the Son of God. So let us hold firmly to what we say we believe" (Hebrews 4:14).

Prayer is talking with God. There is not a magical formula to making prayer "work."

Prayers are not answered by reciting the right words or sitting in the right position. Prayer is simply talking to God. You can talk to Him about anything. If you are happy, pray to God. If you are sad, pray to God. If you are angry, pray to God. No matter what you are feeling, you can pray to God.

When you pray to God, you are to have faith in Him (James 1:5-7). This means we have to believe that He can do anything. God can do anything. God is our powerful Creator, who can do the impossible.

When you pray in accordance with God’s will and with a pure heart, He will hear and answer according to His perfect plan.
