Why did Jesus tell others not to say anything about His miracles?
"Jesus...reached out his hand and touched the man. 'I am willing to do it,' Jesus said. 'Be "clean!"' Right away the disease left the man, and he was 'clean'" (Mark 1:41–42).
"Jesus also did many other things. What if every one of them were written down? I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written" (John 21:25).
Jesus told a man not to say anything about a miracle he performed because He didn’t want the miracle to distract people from His teaching.In Mark 1:40–45, we can read about a man with a skin disease called leprosy who came to Jesus and asked to be healed. Leprosy was a very bad sickness, and it was so contagious that anyone with leprosy had to live apart from healthy people. Jesus felt sorry for the man and healed him, but He warned the man not to say anything about His miracle. He told the man to go to a priest so the priest could tell everyone that the man wasn’t sick anymore. Unfortunately, the man didn’t obey Jesus and told everyone he met that Jesus had healed him.
Jesus probably told the man not to say anything about the miracle because He didn’t want people to only care about the miracles He could do. Jesus came to teach about God, and that was more important than miracles. Because the man told people about his healing, the Bible says, "...So Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. He stayed outside in lonely places..." (Mark 1:45). Jesus still taught many, many people about God, but the attention He got for His miracle made it a harder job for Him.
