Does God speak to me in my dreams when I sleep?

"God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

"After that, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will have dreams. Your young men will have visions" (Joel 2:28).

"That's what the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain means. Human hands didn't cut the rock out. It broke the statue to pieces. It smashed the iron, bronze, clay, silver and gold. The great God has shown you what will take place in days to come. The dream is true. And you can trust the meaning I have given you for it" (Daniel 2:45).

God can speak to you in dreams, but He normally doesn’t.

God spoke to people in their dreams in the past. Some of the people God spoke to in dreams were Daniel, Joseph, and Solomon. However, God normally doesn’t speak to us through dreams today. Instead, He speaks to us through the Bible.

If you believe God spoke to you in a dream, weigh it against the Bible. If the dream goes against the Bible, then it is not God speaking to you. Every dream you have is not a direct conversation with God. The best way to speak to God is through prayer. The best way to hear God is by reading the Bible.

The Bible is the complete Word of God. This means everything we need to know about God is written there. If God spoke to you through a dream, it would agree with the Bible. If you’re in doubt, go to God in prayer. If God spoke to you in a dream, He would confirm it in His Word.
