Why do some churches baptize babies?

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 14:6).

"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. The kingdom of heaven belongs to people like them'" (Matthew 19:14).

Some churches believe baptizing babies will keep the babies from going to hell if they die.

The Bible tells us that when we die we either go to heaven with God or to hell to be separated from Him. Because of this fear of hell, some churches began to baptize babies. They believe that baptizing a baby protects the child from hell in case he would die before asking Jesus to be his Savior.

Baptizing a child before he can say He wants to love Jesus gets everything out of order. The Bible says to believe in Jesus and then be baptized. Being baptized doesn't save us. It’s a symbol of being brand-new through the forgiveness of Jesus. Baptism is also a chance to let others know that we believe in Jesus and will live for Him since He died for us!

A baby is too young to understand he is a sinner and needs a Savior; so baptizing him doesn't do anything for the child at all. As a child grows, we should help him learn who Jesus is and let him make a decision to follow Jesus.
