How does sin separate us from God?
"But your sins have separated you from your God. They have caused him to turn his face away from you. So he won’t listen to you" (Isaiah 59:2).
"Christ didn’t have any sin. But God made him become sin for us. So we can be made right with God because of what Christ has done for us" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
"He has removed our sins from us. He has removed them as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12).
Sin separates us from God because God is good and sin is evil.God is holy (1 Samuel 2:2). This means God is perfect in every way. Since God is holy, perfect, and good, He cannot coexist with evil. Every sin is evil. When we commit a sin, it separates us from God. Our sin hurts God and causes a divide between us and Him.
God originally created the perfect world. It was not until mankind sinned that everything went wrong. Ever since then, we have been separated from God. It is only by placing faith in Jesus that we can have a right relationship with God again. When we believe in Jesus, our sins are forgiven (John 3:16-17).
As Christians, our sins can still separate us from God. When we are actively living in sin, it can cause us to hide from God just like Adam and Eve did in Eden (Genesis 3:8). Sin can also separate us from God because when we live in sin, we cannot experience the joy of Jesus in our hearts. It is never wise to live a life of sin. Sin separates us from God, but by trusting in Jesus, we can have a right relationship with God again (Colossians 2:13-15).
