What is the purpose of prayer?

"Don’t worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him" (Philippians 4:6).

"This is how you should pray. 'Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored'" (Matthew 6:9).

"If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault" (James 1:5).

The purpose of prayer is to talk with God. He wants to have a relationship with you!

Prayer is another word for talking with God. When you pray, you are talking to God. You can thank God, praise Him, and ask for His help. God is always happy to help you when you are in need. He is also always happy to hear from you when you just want to talk with Him.

Prayer helps you worship God. You can thank Him for your family, friends, and your home. You can even thank Him for the little things, such as a pretty flower you see. When you give thanks to God, you are praising Him. It makes God happy when you thank Him.

Prayer helps keep your dependence on God. We all need God’s help and understand that God is the provider of help. If you ask God for help with loving others, forgiving others, or obtaining wisdom, He will help you.

Prayer helps every believer grow in their relationship with Christ and enables you to be able to talk with Him.
