What is apologetics?
"But make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect" (1 Peter 3:15).
"Dear friends, I really wanted to write to you about the salvation we share. But now I feel I should write and ask you to stand up for the faith. God’s holy people were trusted with it once and for all time" (Jude 1:3).
Apologetics is “giving a defense.”There are many types of apologetics when it comes to God. There are Christian apologetics, classical apologetics, and evidential apologetics. In each apologetic, the speaker or author is trying to defend the Christian faith.
The Bible tells us we are to defend the faith (1 Peter 3:15). Classical apologetics uses morals to defend the existence of God. Evidential apologetics points to miracles to prove God’s existence.
As we grow in our faith with God, we learn how to explain our faith and defend it. Not every Christian needs to be an expert in apologetics. Every Christian, though, should know what he believes, why he believes it, how to share it with others, and how to defend it against lies and attacks.
