Why is Jesus called the "Word"?

"The Word became a human being. He made his home with us. We have seen his glory. It is the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father. And the Word was full of grace and truth" (John 1:14).

The "Word" is a name the Bible sometimes uses for Jesus to show that Jesus came from God and that He is God’s message to the world.

The Bible sometimes calls itself "the Word of God," but it also uses the title "Word" to talk about Jesus. We can see this in John 1:1, which says, "In the beginning, the Word was already there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God." The Bible isn’t talking about itself here—it’s talking about Jesus (John 1:14)! Jesus is God, so He has been around since before time began. He has always been there. He helped God make the world.

Jesus is God’s message, or word, of salvation to the whole world. When Jesus came to Earth, He came to teach people about God and then die on a cross for everyone’s sins. "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life" (John 3:16). Jesus then defeated death by coming back to life three days later. Because Jesus did this, everyone who believes in Him will be forgiven of their sins.
