Why did God create mosquitoes?

"The LORD God said to Adam...'I am putting a curse on the ground because of what you did. All the days of your life you will have to work hard. It will be painful for you to get food from the ground'" (Genesis 3:17).

When God created the earth, He looked at His creation and said that it was very good (Genesis 1:31). The world of Adam and Eve was paradise. There was no illness, disease, hunger, crime, suffering, or biting mosquitoes (as we know them today).

Today, we still live in a beautiful world and there is much wonderment around us, but our planet is no longer paradise. There is hunger, disease, suffering, death and, yes, there are swarms of mosquitoes to bite us. What happened? Why did the world change?

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and brought sin into the world, our planet was placed under a curse (Genesis 3:17). The Apostle Paul said that our planet groans under the burden of sin (Romans 8:19-25). Sin is our world’s greatest enemy and even good bugs were impacted by sin. Before sin, all bugs used plants for food. After sin, some mosquitoes began drinking blood instead of plant nectar. Those same mosquitos can even spread disease.

The good news is that Jesus is coming back, and when He returns, He is going to set everything right once again. He is going to fix our broken planet. There will be no wars, hunger, illness, or poverty. The earth will become paradise once again and those pesky mosquitoes won’t bother us anymore.
