What can I learn from the Good Samaritan?

"Jesus replied, 'A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. Robbers attacked him. They stripped off his clothes and beat him. Then they went away, leaving him almost dead'" (Luke 10:30).

"But a Samaritan came to the place where the man was. When he saw the man, he felt sorry for him" (Luke 10:33).

"'Which of the three do you think was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by robbers?' The authority on the law replied, 'The one who felt sorry for him.' Jesus told him, 'Go and do as he did'" (Luke 10:36-37).

We can learn a lot of good things from the Good Samaritan, including kindness, compassion, and love.

In the story of the Good Samaritan, a man is robbed and he is badly hurt. He was so injured that he almost dies (Luke 10:30). Three men pass by him. The first man was a priest who walked right by the hurt man. He didn’t stop to help him or even ask if he was ok.

The second man was a Levite and he passed right by the injured man just like the priest (Luke 10:32). Neither the priest nor the Levite cared enough to help the man. The third person who passed the injured man was a Samaritan. The Samaritan stopped and helped the injured man. He bandaged his injuries and took him to an inn on his own donkey. He told the innkeeper to look after the injured man until he returned (Luke 10:34-35).

The Samaritan did the right thing. He helped, cared, and showed compassion to the hurt man.

We should follow the Good Samaritan’s example. If we see somebody in need, we can help them. We can extend love, kindness, and compassion. We should never pass a person by when they are in need. God loves all people and we should too.
