Is it wrong for me to be a fan of superheroes?

"God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him" (John 3:17).

"LORD, you are the one who saves. May your blessing be on your people" (Psalm 3:8).

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 14:6).

We can be a fan of superheroes, but we should not become obsessed.

Who's your favorite superhero? Superman? Batman? Wonder Woman? We all have a favorite superhero. Superheroes can teach us good morals. Spider-Man teaches us to be responsible. Power Rangers teach us to be good team players. Batman teaches us that even if we don’t have super powers, we can still be super.

We need to be careful with some aspects of superhero culture. There is a lot of violence in superhero movies and that can negatively impact our lives. We should never promote or practice violence. Instead, Jesus tells us we should love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31).

We should also be careful to keep our hobbies in proper perspective. God wants us to keep Him first in our lives. That means we shouldn’t become obsessed with things like superheroes, movies, comics, and so on.

Jesus is more than our ultimate superhero. Jesus is our Savior. He is God in the flesh (Colossians 2:9). Superman’s weakness is kryptonite. But Jesus does not have any weaknesses. Jesus is the One we can depend on. He really did save the world (John 3:16).
