What is sportsmanship?

"But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself. There is no law against things of that kind" (Galatians 5:22-23).

"God gave us his Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power and love. He helps us control ourselves" (2 Timothy 1:7).

"So eat and drink and do everything else for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Sportsmanship is being kind, compassionate, and loving in sports. A Christian should always have good sportsmanship.

A person with good sportsmanship is kind, fair, and peaceful. Even if they lose a game, they are still kind to others. Someone without sportsmanship will be rude, mean, and a bad sport. If they lose a game, they will yell, scream, and be mean to others.

As Christians, we are to show Christ’s love at all times. Whether we are playing a sport or attending church, we need to be kind, compassionate, and caring. Even if we are competing in a major competition, we are still to show Jesus in our actions. We are Christians on the field and off the field.

We can develop good sportsmanship by praying to Jesus and reading the Bible. The Holy Spirit will help us learn self-control. God wants us to be a good team player. Do you have a game this weekend? Don’t forget to show good sportsmanship!
