Are we like God?

"So God created human beings in his own likeness. He created them to be like himself. He created them as male and female" (Genesis 1:27).

"LORD, you have seen what is in my heart. You know all about me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know what I’m thinking even though you are far away. You know when I go out to work and when I come back home. You know exactly how I live....How you made me is amazing and wonderful. I praise you for that. What you have done is wonderful. I know that very well" (Psalm 139:1-3, 14).

We don’t look like God because He is a spirit and He’s invisible, but there are some ways that we are like God.

We have some things in common with God because we are made in His image. For example, we think and solve problems, we can be creative, we appreciate beautiful things, and we can love. One other example of how we are like God is that we know the difference between good and bad.

God created the animals too, but they weren’t created in His image. They can’t think on the same levels that we can. Only humans were created in God's image. We were made to be like Him. That makes us special!

There are many ways we are different from God. For example, God is perfect and we are not. God doesn’t sin by doing or saying something mean. We change our minds, but God never changes. We can’t be everywhere at once, but God can!
