What does it mean to not be ashamed of the gospel?
"The good news shows how God makes people right with himself. From beginning to end, becoming right with God depends on a person’s faith. It is written, 'Those who are right with God will live by faith'" (Romans 1:17).
"But make sure in your hearts that Christ is Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect" (1 Peter 3:15).
God does not want us to be ashamed of the gospel or scared to tell others that we believe in Him.Romans 1:16 says, "I am not ashamed of the good news. It is God’s power. And it will save everyone who believes..."
Have you ever been ashamed? The word
ashamed means to feel bad or embarrassed because of someone’s actions or beliefs. You might have been ashamed of your friends and family because of something they did. Or maybe you were ashamed about something you did or said. Shame can also make us feel scared to do something because we might be teased or made fun of by our friends.
Sometimes we might feel ashamed of the gospel or embarrassed for believing what the Bible says is true. People might make fun of us and make us feel foolish for what we believe. They might say the Bible is a fairytale or that it is outdated. But God says, we must live by faith (Romans 1:17). We shouldn’t feel bad about believing in the truth of the Bible. The best way to defend your belief is to learn as much as you can so you will be prepared to answer other people’s questions (1 Peter 3:15). We can be confident and proud to believe in Jesus.
