Why is life so hard?

"The woman saw that the tree’s fruit was good to eat and pleasing to look at. She also saw that it would make a person wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her. And he ate it" (Genesis 3:6).

"I have told you these things, so that you can have peace because of me. In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world" (John 16:33).

"We know that all that God created has been groaning. It is in pain as if it were giving birth to a child. The created world continues to groan even now" (Romans 8:22).

Life is so hard because there is sin in the world.

Life can be very hard… even for kids! Friends reject us, people are unkind, classmates lie about us, parents argue, we fail a test, and sometimes someone we love gets very ill. All the bad that happens in the world is because of sin. In fact, sin is what makes life so hard.

Sin entered the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God (Genesis 3). God never intended for life to be hard. God wanted life to be wonderful and full of joy. Once Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit, sin came into the world and caused everything to go into disorder. This is why life can be so hard.

Life is also hard because this is not our final home. Our final home is with God. From the time we believe in Jesus, we became part of the family of God (John 1:12). We are sons and daughters of the King. One day, we will be with God for all eternity and life will never be hard again. When life feels really hard, remind yourself of this truth. Also, remember that God loves you and wants to walk with you through the difficult times of life.
