What does the Bible say about the homeless?
"Up to this very hour we are hungry and thirsty. We are dressed in rags. We are being treated badly. We have no homes" (1 Corinthians 4:11).
"Suppose someone is poor among you. And suppose they live in one of the towns in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Then don’t be mean to them. They are poor. So don’t hold back money from them. Instead, open your hands and lend them what they need. Do it freely" (Deuteronomy 15:7-8).
"Anyone who is kind to poor people lends to the Lord. God will reward them for what they have done" (Proverbs 19:17).
The Bible tells us to help the homeless.Every person is made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). This means that no matter what a person looks like or what their current situation is, we need to care about them. Many homeless people really need our help. God tells us to help the poor and the homeless.
We may not be rich, but God calls us to be generous with what we have. Do you have warm clothes on? Did you eat today? Do you own shoes? Sometimes homeless people don’t have these things. Oftentimes, we can share with them.
Jesus helped the homeless and the poor. We can be a light for Jesus by helping the homeless. Ask your parents to give you ideas about how to help the homeless in your community. Maybe your family can help you make sandwiches and pass them out to a homeless shelter. Or maybe you could volunteer at a soup kitchen. Or maybe you can host a fundraiser for a local homeless shelter. The possibilities are endless!
