What does the Bible say about contentment?
"I know what it’s like not to have what I need. I also know what it’s like to have more than I need. I have learned the secret of being content no matter what happens. I am content whether I am well fed or hungry. I am content whether I have more than enough or not enough. I can do all this by the power of Christ. He gives me strength" (Philippians 4:12-13).
"Anyone who loves money never has enough. Anyone who loves wealth is never satisfied with what they get. That doesn’t have any meaning either" (Ecclesiastes 5:10).
"Don’t be controlled by love for money. Be happy with what you have. God has said, ‘I will never leave you. I will never desert you.’ So we can say boldly, 'The Lord helps me. I will not be afraid. What can mere human beings do to me?'" (Hebrews 13:5-6).
The Bible says "You gain a lot when you live a godly life. But you must be happy with what you have" (1 Timothy 6:6).Contentment is a big word. What contentment means is that you are happy with what you have. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Don’t be controlled by love for money. Be happy with what you have.” Instead of always wanting something, be happy with what you have.
It is hard not to be jealous of another kid’s toys or gadgets, but remember to practice contentment. Our life is more than toys, gadgets, food, or clothes (Matthew 6:25-34). Not being happy with what we have is a sin. God is the giver of all good gifts and He has already blessed us (James 1:17).
Instead of complaining about what you want, give thanks to God. Tell Him how thankful you are for Him (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Everything in your life is a gift from God—the air in your lungs, the sun on your face, and your family. Give Him thanks and choose to live your life with a heart of contentment.
