Will God answer my prayer?

"There is one thing we can be sure of when we come to God in prayer. If we ask anything in keeping with what he wants, he hears us. If we know that God hears what we ask for, we know that we have it" (1 John 5:14-15).

"You don't have what you want, because you don't ask God. When you do ask for something, you don't receive it. Why? Because you ask for the wrong reason" (James 4:2b-3a).

"If you remain joined to me and my words remain in you, ask for anything you wish. And it will be given to you" (John 15:7).

God may answer your prayer with yes, no, or wait.

When we believe God, He does promise to answer us. But He doesn't always answer, "Yes." He is all-powerful, so He can answer any prayer that's in His plan for us. He is also all-good, so He will always answer with what's best for us.

Since God knows what's best for us, we should ask for things in God's will (what He wants). We can know what He wants by reading the Bible and asking Him to give us wisdom (James 1:5). We can ask Him for the strength to follow and obey Jesus.

If God doesn't answer your prayer right away, He may just be saying, "Wait." Don't get discouraged. Keep praying that God's will is done. Waiting helps us trust Him because God knows the best time and way to answer our prayers.
