Why do we pray?

"So let us boldly approach the throne of grace. Then we will receive mercy. We will find grace to help us when we need it" (Hebrews 4:16).

"At all times, pray by the power of the Spirit. Pray all kinds of prayers. Be watchful, so that you can pray. Always keep on praying for all of God’s people" (Ephesians 6:18).

"'I know the plans I have for you,' announces the Lord. 'I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come. Then you will call out to me. You will come and pray to me. And I will listen to you. When you look for me with all your heart, you will find me'" (Jeremiah 29:11–13).

We pray to talk to God: praising Him, confessing sin, thanking Him, asking Him for help.

Praying is how we talk to God. God made us to know, love, and praise Him. Prayer helps us become closer to Him. Just like you talk with your friends, you should also talk to God so you can know more about Him and what He wants you to do. God speaks back to us through the Bible, His Word. In the Bible God tells us we can pray to Him. We should pray, but we should also want to pray. What a privilege to talk to the God who created the universe! He is all-powerful, so He can answer any prayer that’s in His plan for us.
