What is the importance of the empty tomb?
"He was buried. He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as Scripture said he would be" (1 Corinthians 15:4).
"Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. It was still dark. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance" (John 20:1).
"The angel said to the women, 'Don't be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here! He has risen, just as he said he would! Come and see the place where he was lying'" (Matthew 28:5-6).
The empty tomb is very important to the faith of Christianity.The empty tomb proves Jesus is God. The empty tomb proves that Jesus is who He said He was. The empty tomb is proof that Jesus has defeated death. Jesus rose from the dead!
All four of the Gospels confirm the empty tomb (Matthew 28:1-6; Mark 16:1-7; Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-2). Paul talks about the truth of the empty tomb too (1 Corinthians 15:1-5). Paul says the gospel is: Jesus died for our sins (proved by His burial) and that He rose again the third day (proved by His appearances to many witnesses).
Jesus said, “Because I live, you will live also” (John 14:19). Death will be defeated (1 Corinthians 15:26, 54–55).
Without the empty tomb, our faith would be lost and without power.
