Why does Jesus tell us to follow Him?

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 14:6).

"Then Jesus spoke to his disciples. He said, 'If anyone wants to follow me, he must say no to himself. He must pick up his cross and follow me. If he wants to save his life, he will lose it. But if he loses his life for me, he will find it'" (Matthew 16:24-25).

"Christ suffered for you. He left you an example. He expects you to follow in his steps. You too were chosen to suffer. Scripture says, 'He didn't commit any sin. No lies ever came out of his mouth'...He himself carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did it so that we would die as far as sins are concerned. Then we would lead godly lives. His wounds have made you whole" (1 Peter 2:21-23).

Following Jesus is the only way to please God and get to heaven.

God sent Jesus to live a perfect life. Because no one else is perfect, Jesus died for the sins of those who follow Him. Sadly, most people want to go their own way, not follow Jesus. Going your own way means making your own decisions about what's right or wrong. If you go your own way, you can't please God and will have to be separated from Him forever in hell.

You make Jesus the boss of your life, instead of doing whatever you want to do. Follow Jesus by knowing Him like a best friend, copying His example, and obeying His commands in the Bible. Of course, Jesus' followers sometimes fail. But God has forgiven them. Why? They are following Jesus, who lived perfectly and died for sin. Turn to follow Jesus today!
