Who was Isaiah in the Bible?
"The Lord himself will give you a sign. The virgin is going to have a baby. She will give birth to a son. And he will be called Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).
"The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me. The LORD has anointed me to announce good news to poor people. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts have been broken. He has sent me to announce freedom for those who have been captured. He wants me to set prisoners free from their dark cells. He has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free. He wants me to announce the day when he will pay his enemies back. Our God has sent me to comfort all those who are sad" (Isaiah 61:1-2).
"In those days Hezekiah became sick. He knew he was about to die. So he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD answered him. He gave him a miraculous sign" (2 Chronicles 32:24).
Isaiah is a prophet in the Bible, who wrote the book of Isaiah. His name means, "Yahweh is salvation."Within his book in the Bible, Isaiah talks a lot about the Messiah. When Isaiah was writing, it was hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Most of the book of Isaiah is prophecy about Jesus, His death, and what He would accomplish during his life. Many of the statements Isaiah makes about the Messiah are fulfilled in the person Jesus Christ. The Gospels quote Isaiah's writings more than any other book of the Bible.
Not much is known about the man Isaiah. What we do know is that he was the son of Amoz. He was also married and had children of his own (Isaiah 1:1; 7:3; 8:3). It is possible that Isaiah was a priest since he is recognized as being a great prophet in other books of the Bible.
God answered many of Isaiah's prayers, including moving the sun back ten steps to give extra life to King Hezekiah. This was a sign that God would add another15 years to Hezekiah’s life (2 Kings 20:8-11; 2 Chronicles 32:24). As we can see, Isaiah did many great things for the Lord and obeyed Him. We also need to obey God and trust where He is leading us in our lives.
