Will the Holy Spirit ever leave me?
"The day of Pentecost came. The believers all gathered in one place...All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit..." (Acts 2:1, 4a).
"But your sinful nature does not control you. The Holy Spirit controls you. The Spirit of God lives in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ" (Romans 8:9).
"God has said, 'I will never leave you. I will never desert you'" (Hebrews 13:5b).
The Holy Spirit is always with a true Christian believer.When you first place your faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit (God) Himself comes to live inside your spirit, even though you can’t see or feel Him. The Holy Spirit is there to help you know God better, so that you can start thinking in God’s ways and have a heart that wants to make decisions that please Him.
The Holy Spirit works differently today than He did before Jesus was born on the earth. Back then, the Holy Spirit wasn’t always with believers. But after Jesus rose from the dead and went back to heaven, the Holy Spirit came to stay with believers permanently. We can try and try to ignore the Holy Spirit’s reminders that we need to live for God and put Him first, but He never stops bugging us about it until we turn back to our faith in God. We can make the Holy Spirit sad that we are turning away from Him, but the Holy Spirit never leaves us!
