Does the Bible say I won't ever die if I become a Christian?

"Jesus said...'I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even if he dies'" (John 11:25).

"Jesus died for us. Some will be alive when he comes. Others will be dead. Either way, we will live together with him" (1 Thessalonians 5:10).

"There are many rooms in my Father’s house. If this were not true, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. If I go and do that, I will come back. And I will take you to be with me. Then you will also be where I am" (John 14:2–3).

There’s a difference between physical death and spiritual death.

Jesus said that people who believe in Him will never die (John 11:25–26). What did Jesus mean by that?

Each of us has a body and a spirit, which is the part of a person we can’t see. When a believer’s body dies, his or her body is placed in the grave, but his or her spirit goes to be with Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:8). This happens because that person believed in Jesus, and so God gave him or her eternal life in heaven (John 3:16). That person’s spirit will be with God until the time when Jesus will return to take all believers to Himself forever.

But when Jesus comes back again (the rapture), the people who had already died will be joined to their bodies. Their bodies will be changed to be like Jesus’ resurrected body (Philippians 3:20–21). Believers who are still alive when Jesus comes back will be given new bodies too, and they will also be taken to heaven to live with Jesus forever (1 Thessalonians 4:13–17).

So, when the Bible says that people who believe in Jesus will never die, it doesn’t mean their bodies won’t die. It means that their spirits will never die and will be with Jesus in heaven forever. If you haven’t received eternal life from God yet, click here to read more about that.
