Why did Jesus pray?

"Father, I thank you for hearing me. I know that you always hear me. But I said this for the benefit of the people standing here. I said it so they will believe that you sent me" (John 11:41-42).

"The Lord is our God. The Lord is one" (Mark 12:29b).

Jesus prayed as an example for us and because He enjoyed talking with God the Father.

There are two main reasons Jesus prayed. First, He prayed as an example for other people. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus prayed to show His disciples how to pray (Matthew 6:9-13).

Second, Jesus prayed because He enjoyed talking with God the Father. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit are all God. As one God, they spend time together, including talking with one another.

Think about it: You might be part of one family, but you still like to talk with each other as much as you can. God Himself is one, but He still enjoys time talking with each Person within the Trinity (The Trinity is the name for the Father, Son, and Spirit together).
