Who was King Josiah in the Bible?
"God has breathed life into all of Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right" (2 Timothy 3:16).
"Above all, here is what you must understand. No prophecy in Scripture ever came from a prophet’s own understanding. It never came simply because a prophet wanted it to. Instead, the Holy Spirit guided the prophets as they spoke. So prophecy comes from God" (2 Peter 1:20–21).
King Josiah was one of the youngest kings in the Bible, starting his reign at 8-years-old.King Josiah was born into a wicked family. He was the son of King Amon and the grandson of King Manasseh. Both of these men were wicked and cruel. Neither of these men followed God during their reign. Josiah was different. He loved God and wanted to serve Him with his whole heart.
Josiah rose to power at the young age of 8-years-old because his father was assassinated. Once Josiah became king, the kingdom started to have positive changes. During his eighteenth year of reigning as king, he and a team of people began repairing the temple. The high priest Hilkiah found the Book of the Law. The Book of the Law was read out loud and this caused Josiah to tear his clothes in remorse and mourning (2 Kings 22:10-11).
Josiah ordered for the Book of the Law to be read to all the people of the land. From that day forward, he led his people in full obedience to God. Josiah repaired many things that had been destroyed at the hands of wicked men and he brought back the Book of the Law. Josiah died during the battle against the Egyptian Pharaoh Necho at Megiddo. From his life, we can see the importance of following and obeying God.
