What is a resurrection?
"The angel said to the women, 'Don’t be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here! He has risen, just as he said he would! Come and see the place where he was lying. Go quickly! Tell his disciples, “He has risen from the dead. He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.” Now I have told you'" (Matthew 28:5–7).
"The Lord himself will come down from heaven. We will hear a loud command. We will hear the voice of the leader of the angels. We will hear a blast from God’s trumpet. Many who believe in Christ will have died already. They will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
A resurrection is when someone rises from the dead—they become alive again after dying.Jesus died on a cross for us. But He never died spiritually; He was still God and still existed even when His physical body died. He was physically dead for three days, and then He came back to life and appeared to His friends and many other people.
The Bible also tells us about a few times when Jesus resurrected some people who had died. These miracles showed people He is God. (See the story of Lazarus in John 11.)
Today, we still experience a resurrection of our spiritual lives when we trust in Jesus as our Savior. While we once lived as spiritually "dead" people, we receive forgiveness for our sins and a new life that overcomes that spiritual death. That means that, even when our bodies die, our spiritual selves will live on forever in heaven with Jesus.
