Why is the Book of Revelation so hard to understand?
"So write down what you have seen. Write about what is happening now and what will happen later" (Revelation 1:19).
"I saw a great white throne and the One who was sitting on it. When the earth and sky saw his face, they ran away. There was no place for them" (Revelation 20:11).
"I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth were completely gone. There was no longer any sea" (Revelation 21:1).
The Book of Revelation uses unusual pictures to teach us about the end times.The Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation. He wrote the book after God showed him special events that would happen in the future. John wrote these things down so that we could know about them too. John's book is difficult to understand because God showed him amazing things he'd never seen before, things that he couldn't always explain with words we can understand. For example, he described strange creatures that had parts that looked like animals we have today, but we still can't imagine what they really look like.
The Book of Revelation tells us that our world will come to an end and that God will judge everyone. Many horrible things, including a great war, will happen to the earth before God destroys it and creates a new heaven and a new earth. It tells us that all the people who believe in Jesus as their Savior will go to heaven to be with Him. Revelation shows us how amazing heaven will be, but it also tells us that people who don't trust in Jesus will be sent to live in hell.
