What happened at the garden of Gethsemane?

"Watch and pray. Then you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak" (Matthew 26:41).

"An angel from heaven appeared to Jesus and gave him strength" (Luke 22:43).

"Because he was very sad and troubled, he prayed even harder. His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground" (Luke 22:44).

Jesus was betrayed at the garden of Gethsemane.

Each of the four Gospels give a detailed description of what happened at the garden of Gethsemane. On the day before Jesus was crucified, He went to the garden of Gethsemane with His disciples.

Jesus took three of His disciples, Peter, John, and James, to a place separate from the other disciples. He asked those three to pray, so that they wouldn’t fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41). Sadly, they all fall asleep. Jesus had to wake them up twice to remind them to pray so that they wouldn’t fall into temptation.

It was here in the garden of Gethsemane that Jesus prayed to His Father, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup of suffering away from me. But do what you want, not what I want." An angel appeared from heaven and gave Him strength (Luke 22:43).

The Lord was so sad and troubled that "His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground" (Luke 22:44). Shortly after, Judas Iscariot came with soldiers, high priests, Pharisees, and servants to arrest Jesus and Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Peter went to defend Jesus and cut off the servant of the high priest’s ear, but Jesus rebukes Peter and heals the man’s ear. Jesus was arrested and taken to Pontius Pilate.

While the events that happened at the garden of Gethsemane were intense, they are important events in the last few day’s of Jesus’ life.
