Does the Bible say anything about grandparents?

"Stand up in order to show your respect for old people. Also have respect for me. I am the Lord your God" (Leviticus 19:32).

"A good person leaves what they own to their children and grandchildren. But a sinner’s wealth is stored up for those who do right" (Proverbs 13:22).

"But suppose a widow has children or grandchildren. They should first learn to put their faith into practice. They should care for their own family. In that way they will pay back their parents and grandparents. That pleases God" (1 Timothy 5:4).

The Bible mentions grandparents. It tells us to respect them and honor them.

Grandparents are important people in our lives. During the time when the Bible was written, grandparents were treated with honor. It was common for grandparents to have authority and special places of honor within society. Proverbs 17:6 says, “Grandchildren are like a crown to older people. And children are proud of their parents.” In our modern day, we are to respect and honor our grandparents too.

We have a responsibility to our grandparents to honor them and respect them. Just as we obey our parents, we are to obey our grandparents in the Lord. God wants us to honor, love, and respect all people, including our grandparents.

Sadly, you may have a grandparent that doesn’t treat you well. If your grandparent is mean to you, be sure to tell another trusted adult.
