How do I make friends?

"In everything, do to others what you would want them to do to you" (Matthew 7:12a).

"Even a man who has many companions can be destroyed. But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24).

"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.' And here is the second one. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' There is no commandment more important than these" (Mark 12:30–31).

To make friends, be the kind of person you'd like to have for your own friend.

You probably know lots of kids in your neighborhood, at your church, at school, and in your sports teams. You can be friendly to all of them, but you should choose your close friends carefully. The Bible says, "Anyone who walks with wise people grows wise. But a companion of foolish people suffers harm" (Proverbs 13:20). A foolish friend will get you into trouble by the bad choices he makes. But if you choose a wise friend, both of you can learn to make the right choices that please God.

Whenever you're around other kids, treat them the way you want to be treated. You feel special when older kids include you in their games, so take time to play with kids younger than you. You like it when someone shares their things with you, so share yours with other kids. If you act like a good friend, you'll get friends.

Remember that other kids aren't perfect, just like you aren't perfect. Be willing to forgive other kids when they make a mistake, and say you're sorry when you hurt them. You won't ever be friends with everyone, and that's okay. But you'll make many friends when you show them the love Jesus shows you.
