Is there such a thing as the Easter bunny?

"When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done" (Romans 6:23).

"God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life" (John 3:16).

"[Jesus said,] What I'm about to tell you is true. Anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He will not be found guilty. He has crossed over from death to life" (John 5:24).

The Easter bunny is a part of the Easter traditions that many people celebrate, but he's made up.

The story of the Easter bunny may have begun over 400 years ago. The rabbit, the story says, delivers eggs, candy, and toys in baskets or hides them for children to find. Some stories say that the rabbit is actually a "hare" that brings eggs only to good children. Some people think of Easter eggs as a sign of the new life that comes to plants and animals in the spring as things start to grow again.

Many Christians like to think of Easter eggs as a reminder that Jesus gives us eternal life (living forever with God) when we trust in Him as our Savior. In fact, this is what Easter is really all about—remembering when Jesus died for our sins and came back to life three days later. We all sin when we do, say, and think wrong things that displease God. Because of our sin, we deserve to spend eternity without God. But because God loves us, He sent His only Son, Jesus, to give us a way to spend eternity in heaven with Him.

Jesus was not only a man but was also God in human form. He didn't deserve to die because death is the punishment for sin, and He never sinned. But Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment we deserve for our sins, and God brought Him back to life three days later! If we believe and trust in Jesus to forgive our sins, we'll go to heaven to be with Him when we die.
