I have a paper route. How should I treat my boss?

"Trust in your leaders. Put yourselves under their authority. Do this, because they keep watch over you. They know they are accountable to God for everything they do. Do this, so that their work will be a joy. If you make their work a heavy load, it won’t do you any good" (Hebrews 13:17).

"Correct an older man in a way that shows respect. Make an appeal to him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as if they were your brothers" (1 Timothy 5:1).

"Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for human masters" (Colossians 3:23).

You should treat your boss kindly, listening to him or her.

The Bible tells us we should submit to authority (Romans 13:1). Since this is true, we need to submit to our bosses. This means we are respectful and kind to them. Even if our boss isn’t very nice, it is still important to treat them as Jesus would. The Lord wouldn’t be mean to anyone, which tells us we shouldn't be mean to others either.

As we are working, we need to work as though we are working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23). This means we are to try our very best, even if the job is hard. Whenever you get tired or stressed because of your paper route, remember you are working for the Lord. This will help you to be motivated to keep working and treating your boss well.

We never need to be mean or hostile toward our bosses. Since our bosses are over us, we need to respect them. However, if a boss ever tells us to do something illegal or to do something that goes against God’s commands, we are not called to do those things (Acts 5:29). If you are ever in a job that asks you to do something like this, you need to walk away, tell a parent or adult or even police, and choose to remain kind. By doing this, you will do the right thing.
