Why did God let my house burn down in a fire?

"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him" (Romans 8:28a).

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways remember him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight" (Proverbs 3:5–6).

The Bible tells us we need to remember God's love when sad things happen.

Every year, there are wildfires around the world. In 2012, several fires burned buildings and houses in Colorado. It made many people sad and confused. But the Bible tells us we need to remember God's love when sad things happen.

God is perfect, powerful, and knows everything. People can't understand everything about God, so it's hard for us to understand that He still loves us even when sad things happen, like a house fire. Job was a man in the Bible who lost everyone he loved and everything he owned, but he still trusted and praised God! We should do the same thing, even though it can be hard.

If your house burned in a fire, God understands you're scared and wish it had never happened. Maybe God has a blessing that He wants to give you. God could be trying to help you get to know and trust Him more. He may want to prepare you for something you will do later in your life, like help other fire victims or people who have been in a tragedy. He may be using it as a way to tell you about Jesus and how He died for your sins so you could go to heaven (read about that in "The Path")!
