What is the key to hearing God’s voice?
"God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right" (2 Timothy 3:16).
"If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault" (James 1:5).
"After the earthquake a fire came. But the Lord wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire there was only a gentle whisper" (1 Kings 19:12).
Reading the Bible and listening is the key to hearing God’s voice.The Bible is the Word of God, so that is the primary way God speaks to us. By reading the Bible, you will be able to hear what God is trying to tell you. God won’t speak to you out of a storm cloud. You will hear His voice by reading the Bible.
God can also speak to you through other believers in your life. The Bible tells us to have trusted friends who came help us (Proverbs 15:22). These trusted friends or advisers should point you to the Bible. When anyone gives you advice, you need to compare it to what the Bible says.
A third way to hear God’s voice is to pray. When you pray, ask God for wisdom and He will guide you. The Holy Spirit will help you discern God’s voice.
